Three Stone Engagement Rings
By pauljorg
One popular choice of rings these days is the three stone ring. They were first created and released by the De Beers jewelry company and have become an industry sensation since then. One of the reasons they are so popular is their symbolism. The large stone, set in the center, symbolizes present love. The smallest stone, set on one side of the center stone, represents past love. And the other side-set stone, often medium size (though sometimes it is the same size as the stone on the other side) is symbolic of future love. Because of this symbolism on undying eternal love (they are sometimes referred to as "eternity rings", three stone engagement rings are very popular.
While the three stones are often of different sizes as described above, you probably want to make sure that there is not too much size variation. The three stone combination provide depth to the ring, rather the simply decorative effect of a solitaire ring with accent stones on either side of it.
Three stone engagement rings are available in a wide variety of designs, stones, and cuts. Perhaps the most desireable is a diamond ring, because of the value and status of diamonds. Three stone rings usually make use of round, princess, or oval cut diamonds. They are available in white gold and yellow gold varieties, as well as platinum. And for those of you on a stricter budget, silver bands may be arranged, though this may require a bit of assertive discussion with the jeweler who'll try to upsell you to gold or platinum.
Diamonds are not a requirement, however, and if you want some color in your ring then you could make the surrounding stones a colored gemstone while leaving the center stone as a diamond. Or you could not use a diamond at all, instead opting for emeralds or sapphires, both of which I think look great with white gold, platinum, or silver. The most important thing is that you find a ring that suits your tastes, so you can always cherish this symbol of neverending love.
