First of all, what are pave rings? A pave ring is a ring that gives the illusion of a solid stone surface, rather than a metal band with stones attached to it. This effect is achieved by a special kind of stone setting that uses only tiny prongs to hold each stone. This maximizes the surface area of visible gemstone, and minimizes the visible surface area of the metal band.

Pave engagement rings feature a large center stone, usually in a tiffany setting. Less brilliant round and princess cut stones are often used as the center stone, because the brilliance of the pave band make a brilliant center stone unnecessary.

Now what are micro pave engagement rings? These are a kind of pave ring, made with tiny diamonds or other stones in intricate concentration, to give the band a look of uniform glitter. Some micro pave rings may have more than 100 tiny stones.

Micro pave engagement rings leave even less metal visible than a standard pave ring, because the smaller stones fit more closely together. And more intricate and delicate designs can be produced using the micro pave's tiny stones. Larger stones can not be arranged in as many different ways as larger numbers of small stones can. That flexibility in design allows for greater choice for consumers.

There are, however, some disadvantages to micro pave engagement rings. One is that they are less durable than pave rings set with larger stones. That is because the small stones can not be set as securely, since they are connected only to a very small prong with a very small connected surface area. The other disadvantages are aesthetic and therefore subjective. The extra glitter of the ring's band can overshadow the brilliance of the center stone. And because the band's metal becomes "invisible", the band's row of diamonds may appear too narrow relative to the size of the center stone. This may give the impression of an unbalanced ring. That is, however, up to the consumer.

Micro pave engagement rings are another option for those couples who want something glamorous and flashy. If you like to draw attention to yourself and you want others to notice your sparkle and wonder what you're wearing, then a micro pave engagement ring might be for you. Some more modest consumers, however, prefer a more subdued band with most of the attention being drawn to the center stone. In such as case, a pave engagement ring with larger band stones is likely a better option.
